SandDollar

The sanddollar is a beautiful creature
It is a free spirit floating among the waves
It has no obligations to anyone - it just goes where ever the waves take it
And yet - it is a fragile creature
In time the waves take it to the shore
To many it is a sought after prize - if it is in one piece
If it lands on shore in one piece - it is loved
But if it lands on shore broken -  in pieces
It then becomes worthless in their eyes - and tossed aside
It no longer matters to anyone - it has lost its beauty
At no fault of its own - it is cast aside - crumbled in pieces
It is stepped on - kicked aside - nobody caring
Its beautiful journey has ended - its pieces lost in the sand
But its spirit lives on - somewhere in another realm
Maybe there - its pieces are put back together - and it is loved again
No longer worthless

Wow, that's as deep as the ocean. You know, th eocean is deep, and so is your poem. But it's not deep like the ocen, it's deep figuratively. Because can a poem really be deep like an ocean? I suppose it could, if it was in a bottle that sank to the bottom of a deep ocean. Or lake. Some lakes are deep. But not as deep as the deepest ocean, which is pretty darn deep. Know what I'm sayin'?

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
