Saved by the angels

Poem Commentary

It was a poem inspired by my contracting a flu - not swine flu- over two years ago. At the time, I had to cope for five days  alone in England's windy spring with the then 11 months old daughter and nearly three years old son while my husband was away.

Saved by the angels

Saved by the angels, was I

Tiny and generous
Dainty but Strong
Caring and Courageous

With wobbly legs did she move
Caressing my stiffened body,
Awakening a spiritless soul,
Lavished one with the sweetest scent

Exhausted, he yanked me
Told one to play and pray;
to rejuvenate and rejoice,
even if in tears

For those I was truly saved

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
