Poem Commentary

An old friend, a past love.

The Alliance

Walking along the city streets
paying no mind,
to the noisy commotion,
listening only
to the words and sounds
of another souls energetic emotion

Talking relentlessly
as the street signs
pass by.

No worry of time
or places to be,
just pure simplicity.

Words flow with ease
no stumbling to fill,
an empty void of silence.

Walking along those city streets
it was started,
a friendships alliance.

I was actually walking beside an old love who became my friend first.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
