    The Fishing Girl

She was young and full of promise
In the eyes of all she knew
At the tender age of twenty
She had many things to do
Her heart was full of laughter
Her eyes a blaze with joy
She hoped one day to marry
    A loving country boy
She could have done most any thing
    On an educators list
Been a doctor or a lawyer
    Or a physiologist
She could have been a senator
    Or scaled Mt. Everest
But her heart had only one desire
    She felt compelled to fish
She's fish up in the mountains
She'd fish down at the lake
She looked for streams and rivers
    On every road she'd take
She fished for bass or crappie
    She could handle any rod
    Some people thought it wonderful
    Some people thought it odd
    It dosen't really matter though
    She's thirty now and free
She has a child and husband
And you can watch them on T. V.
    Every Friday morning
You will see them side by side
    Fishing lakes and rivers
When you turn to channel five

In their wax and their wan, the words all here say, the honor in life is to live well and at play, the sight that we set to live each our way, reflects our society to all in our day.

I love your humor. You make me smile every time I read a poem like this. I still wish I knew where you get your ideas. You're the best. TS

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
