The Humble Boat
What vessel now can carry me
Cross yonder waves of shining sea?
Can merchant ship from lands afar
Bid me on to shining star?
Alas! I cry for no can not
That boat of steel and oak-wood wrought.
What of the glorious monitor
Can such a ship propel me there
Across what wets and skies can fell
To little cove and airy knell?
Dismay! says I upon the waves
For this grand ship has met its days.
But tell me of this frigate, sir.
Could it arouse the wind as 'twere?
To shame! for here the failure lies:
That ship cannot go to the skies.
Yet down a size the galleon boat
How fares its sails when it's afloat?
Could it move the oceans blue
To bridge the gap 'twixt me and You?
I fear that it shall sink away
Upon one treach'rous fateful day.
I fear my hope is all but lost
For no one boat is worth the cost
But wait what is this thing I see?
Could it be oh could it be?
It is! A vessel small yet spry
That with the waves a lullabye!
Though meager this small boat may be
A fishing boat is fine for me!
I shall sail the ocean blue,
And close the gap 'twixt me and you!
Avast ye friends and bid ye well!
For off I am to airy knell
Where joy and peace shall carry me
Straight to the God of sky and sea.
