The Longest Wait

The Longest Wait

It's not as easy as I thought it would be
All of the sacrifices that I had to make
The knowledge that I've gained so far is recognized
with reality
made me realize,think, and see
The decisions that await

I didn't let obstacles stand in my way
I often sat and thought why
The lack of understanding had decayed
I had to debate day by day
for years and years to go by

I finally could see what awaits me
A successful plan that blended, through
the accomplishments that I made were
outstanding to be
The conclusions proved to work and let me see
Each month helped me reminisce with
obligations of old and new

The inspiration of a journey continued
The work has given me such an indulgence
I no longer have a curfew
I have ideas on something new
The past thoughts are no longer relevant

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
