    The Night

    The whole world is sleeping and I am the gate keeper.
    Surrounded by white lights; still so dark.
    For the most part I find myself staring into the darkness..
    Finding peace in the night.
    Listening to the sounds of the night.

    The sound of barking dogs a block or two away.
    The whisk of a big truck barreling down the freeway.
    The soft gentle sound of alley cats rummaging through the darkness;
    Secretly sniffing out their prey.
    And in the far, far distance the mighty roar of a north or south bound train as it whistles down the railroad way.

    The wind picks up...whispering through the trees leaving behind a sense of calmness in the bewitching hour.

    I look up and see the moon as its pale light seems to glow over the sleeping town below. The sensual fragrance of roses fills the mid night air.
    Spreading their beauty for all nature to share. And the sound of a lonely paper cup as it drifts across the pave.

    Then silence...The night becomes still and the lights grow dim.
    Over the horizon a glimpse of dawn approaches, and the night turns into day. As the sun begins to illuminate its exquisite face.
    That's when it occurred to me.....The night is an infallible place.
