The One That Got Away
The One That Got Away
Not merely tolerating
She understood you
Laughing genuinely at your jokes
She burrowed into your heart
Took up residence
Easily seeming to penetrate your walls
Joining you comfortably
Outside the box of Normal
She loved you then
And still does now
Yet you stand here alone
In a false sense of comfort with yourself
That’s clearly misery well hidden
On a path she’s previously traveled
But on which you’ve never been
For this she gave a little more length to your rope
And on this rope you kept her
However, she, the stronger one
Broke loose
She got away
And you’re hanging.
