They Danced
They Danced
By: Poetic_Muse
He took her hand and lifted her,
“Shall we dance?” he asked, and he lifted her,
“Hold on tight to me,” as he lifted her,
“On one ….two…three” ….and then he lifted her.
Humming a tune of the Waltz he guided and tossed;
he held her so close
and they danced, they danced, they danced…
I watched from the doorway as I heard him say…
”that’s it like this the way we use to dance,
Almost there my love”,
and then without even looking up to see my silhouette
he addressed my presence,
He said,
“See this is what I do when she’s getting upset…when she thinks she can make it to the bathroom by herself
refusing to face the cancer has taken her health.
Her legs are to weak for her to do it alone
so I..I take her for a Waltz around this old room
and it calms her as she allows me to assist
see, I as her husband knows a good dance she can’t resist.”
I continued to watch as they danced out of site,
that’s the last thing I remember
until the night she took flight…
They danced, they danced,,,,, they danced.
In memory of my beautiful Mother Claudette Wills Jackson
and in appreciation for the man who loved her enough to dance her into Heaven,
My father Lonnie Jackson.
