Poem Commentary

I used his initials in the title along with an extra letter.
Hint: The extra letter in the title is also "a" word

T.L.a.F. (To Love a Friend)

Your smile brightens my day
Your words touch my soul
Your touch brings me closer to love
I mean you are amazing,
And sweet
And funny
And smart
Everything I've always looked for
And nothing I've ever found
I'm starting to feel a type of love that I've never felt before
I don't really know what it is
But I love the way it feels
Pure
Innocent
And right
I trust this feeling you give me
That it will take me in the right direction
I thought I had something good
But you are better
It's a better feeling
I get it when you sit next to me or
When you walk by but call my name from a distance
It truly doesn't matter if I'm never your girl
Just to have you apart of my world
Makes it all worth while
It makes the tears I cried worth it
Because I could cry them on your shoulder
Just Like Cinderella I could never be lonely
Because she had her Prince Charming to hold her
Never have I felt things like this
I just want these things to be here when I'm older
I am just about ready to give you my heart
The words are on my lips but I don't know where to start
OK let me get myself together
To think of you causes me to smile
And ask my friends I haven't been like this in a while
I love you to death
And maybe one day I can be in love with you
But for now I'll just take what I can get
Because  it's complicated T.L.A.F

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
