Traveling

I held on, stood still.

I was lost within the sound,

“a useless faith” he sang.

Out the window,

buildings faded.

We were all traveling by.

When the train stopped

it would all be clear.

I was near

where I had to be.

The sky was too far to fade,

too gorgeous to ignore.

Her colors called to you

and you would respond.

If you were to see it

you would escape,

be safe in her arms,

you’d feel her peace.

Then a woman stood up,

she brought me back.

Turned away, yet spoke to me

“There’s a guardian angel” she said.

Could she be deluded?

I didn’t see anything.

She then softly asked

“Don’t you see him’’?

I saw where she gazed

and she was correct.

There truly was an angel.

He wore a red jacket,

held his son with a smile.

The sky remained beautiful.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
