Vetrens Honor

VETRANS HONOR

See the broken people, Wandering the streets.

Haunted by the visions, That happened in the heat.

The things ya had to do, Keepin on yo feet.

Just to stay alive, Still pull ya to the beat.

Half a world away, You think it’s not that far.

But this time and place, Is farther then a star.

And it still stays with you, Even in your car.

Trying to drown the memories, In the local bar.

Yet again they surface, The panic and the fear.

And steal your simple life, The things that you hold dear.

The wounded and the dying, Their voices you still hear.

They override your world, So far and yet so near.

They say that you is ok, Ya know it’s not quite true.

They won’t admit the damage, that they have done to you.

Ya know you risked it all, For your country true.

But when it all was over, They were not there for you.

They’re doin it again, In another land.

You know when they get home, They’ll find an empty hand.

The white man turns his back, On warriors that stand.

To keep his freedoms safe, And safety in his land.

I had added this one to my favorites. Rings too true.

I enjoyed the poem, but wow! That's a realy rough poem, when it comes to the end and there is nobody there for them! Freedom is so often taken for granted, not all consider the soldiers.

Thank you for the kind feedback.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
