WATER UNDER THE BRIDGE
WE LEAVE WITH UNFINISHED LOVE
THROWING DIRT AS WE GO
IF WE WERE IN ANTARTICA
WE COULD THROW ICE AND SNOW
HERE WE STAND ON THIS BRIDGE
LOOKING DOWN SEEING ITS CRACKS AND STRAIN
WANTING TO WALK AWAY FROM EACH OTHER
BECAUSE WE HAVE CAUSED EACH OTHER TOO MUCH PAIN
WE REFUSE TO BELIEVE THIS CAN GO ON
WE LOOK DOWN AND BEHIND US INSTEAD OF UP
GOD IS THE FOUNDATION OF THIS BRIDGE
FOR IT IS BECAUSE OF HIM THAT WE DRINK FROM THE SAME CUP
THE WATER UNDER THE BRIDGE HAS GOTTEN SO HIGH
SHAKES THE FOUNDATION AND WE STUMBLE AND FALL
RATTLES OUR NERVES BREAKS OUR BONES AND OUR FEELINGS
OUR FRIENDSHIP AND ITS ENGINE BEGINS TO STALL
WHEN WE TAKE OUR EYES OFF GOD OUR TRUST WANES
WE THINK BACK TO THE PAST AND SHAKE THE DUST OFF
WE GET UP FROM THE TABLE THAT JESUS SAT AT
AND REMIND EACH OTHER OF ALL THAT UGLY STUFF
SO ON THE BRIDGE WE STAND
DO WE TAKE A STAND OR STEP OFF THE EDGE
DO WE BELIEVE IN WHAT HE GAVE US
OR DOES OUR FRIENDSHIP DROWN IN THE WATER UP UNDER THE BRIDGE
