When I woke up this morning...

When I woke up this morning anbd threw back the covers,
If I had only realized that you and I would no longer be lovers.
When I woke up this morning and put my feet on the floor,
If I had only realized you'd never walk through that door.
When I woke up this morning and put on my socks and my shoes,
If I had only realized it was you I was going to lose.
When I woke upthis morning and off to work I went,
If only I had realized that you and I were spent.
When I woke up this morning if I'd only realized what I just said,
I would never have gotten out of bed.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
