When you return

When you return

I sat around waiting,
You said you would return
I was ready and anxious
because you said you would return
Anticipating your arrival
because of your return
But my phone had bars
And you didn't call
I checked my voicemail
And my mind was blank
I lost all thoughts because of it
The message was as complicated as it was simple
But I didn't know where to start
You were lying somewhere
I thought you would never come back
But you did
I made sure to take care of you
I cleaned you up and kissed your face
I was lost for words in my tears
I sit around at home
Where we lay
And continued to wait
When you return.

I liked the repetition of 'when you return' considering the title. I liked how you made the situation modern. It was good as far as I know. Why don't you also check out my poem? I'm new and I want to know people's opinions.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
