Whispers Don’t Live Here

Whispers Don’t Live Here

It starts out as a dull roar

Like a seashell up to your ear

Then the sound transforms itself

Into everything you fear

Or not even fear but just can’t take

This sound has grown and gotten wise

It knows exactly how to break you

Sees the grief behind your eyes

Hands clapped desperately over your ears

Fighting to block out the sound

You may run but you can’t hide

Matter of fact, you’re already found

The sound stalks and envelops you

Taunts a bit, aren’t you having fun?

Chuckles a little as you scurry

Thrives on power when you run

“What does it sound like?” You may ask

“It’s everything.” will be my reply

Even the simplest flutter of wings

Before a bird decides to fly

Are you jealous of the bird?

She looks so incredibly and fully free

While you sit in a corner of a quiet room

And go for suicide attempt number three

It’s the wailing of a perpetually hungry child

The whine of a dog kicked a time too many

The scream of a man who a recession defeated

Cause he’d invested his every penny

Is it too loud yet for you to handle?

Observe how little time that transition takes

If life doesn’t kill you the cacophony will:

The sound you hear when your mind breaks
