Is it that I forgot to remember or did I remember to forget?
    Either one would’ve been fine.
    I didn’t want any of your memories tattooed in my skin;
I didn’t want your failures written in my blood
Like DNA to be passed on from generation to generation.
For my children’s children to be sacrificed to your wrong doings,
To your constant state of “temporary insanity”
I didn’t want the memory of you to haunt me in my dreams
To kill me slowly as it does every time I close my eyes.
    Your image inscribed,
    Your voice etched,
    Into my mind
    I hear your thoughts.
    I fear your feelings.
    I hate your ways.
    I avoid your epitaph
    Your legacy
    But
    Never your memory
I can not avoid what has been
    In blood
    In skin
    In stone
    In memory
    What has been

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
