You and I

You and I

I always strive for perfection,
I seldom achieve it.

You say I am perfect for you,
Whether I am by society's standards or not,
You don't care.

I always think things are my fault,
I am always to blame.

You say blame is a stupid game,
That I am not responsible
You say I am special.

I think about too much,
I always talk myself out of things.

You say to have no worries,
that you will protect me.
You say to take the chance to fly.

I look deep into your eyes.
I see goodness and warmth, and a future.

You stare into my eyes,
you see to my soul,
Something bare and true and real.

I think you sometimes elaborate
when you tell me those special things.
I think I also know better than that.

You say you love me,
down to the bone
You say as long as you are living
that I will never be alone.

I am so lucky to have found you.
I never knew soulmates could be true.

You say you believe we are meant for each other.
Yet, unmistakably you are with another.

I will wait until it's my turn.
To have you to myself.
Then I can be the center of your universe
and be with no one else.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
