~ You Were Never There ~
As I first wake in the early morning
With sleep still in my head
Your face appears with no warning
Lying beside me in my bed
The room still dark before the light
As I take a breath of air
I smell your scent with delight
And know that you are there
I strain my ears to hear the sound
Of breathing as you sleep
I smile inside as it is found
And now my joy is deep
I turn towards you to hold you tight
To show you how much I care
My mind is filled with fear and fright
Because you were never there
With sleep still in my head
Your face appears with no warning
Lying beside me in my bed
The room still dark before the light
As I take a breath of air
I smell your scent with delight
And know that you are there
I strain my ears to hear the sound
Of breathing as you sleep
I smile inside as it is found
And now my joy is deep
I turn towards you to hold you tight
To show you how much I care
My mind is filled with fear and fright
Because you were never there
