A Parent's Plea
Why do you hurt me the way you do
when I’ve done nothing harmful to you
I understand you are young and need to learn
but sometimes I need to be firm
I miss you not being here
I know you’re not shedding a tear
You think living here is so bad
and that’s what makes you sad
I think you need to learn to live
in a world where people don’t always give
be it attention, money, or peace
your tolerance for the world must increase
I know it’s tough being so young
and singing the same old song
"you’re not loved or wanted"
By those feelings you are haunted
If only you could open your eyes
and maybe some day realize
We’ve been trying to teach you life’s lessons
in many talking sessions
So here we are
You are not far
You have made quite a fuss
and kept your distance from us
I hope when you return
you’ll of had some lessons learned
Mental illness is not easy to live with
it is real and not a myth
It’s your responsibility to take your meds
and figure out things in your head
it’s not our fault you are unhappy here
and you cry so many tears
You have an illness that needs to be addressed
so you can feel love and be caressed
I’m worried about your future
and the holes in your heart that need a suture
I love you very much
and I wish you’d stay in touch
but for now I’ll let you go
and let you run your own show
