    An American Solider

“I have the right to defend what I stand for”, that’s what went threw my head.

That mind blowing day I saw the terror that struck my people dead.

I turned on my television to watch a movie with some sort of action.

Instead I saw a plane and a building with flames and explosions of reality blasting.

The first plane caught my eye and sparked a fury inside me that exploded and burned.

I am proud to be an American solider so this struck my soul and this is what I learned.

The second plane came too quick and my pain was still trying to grow.

“I have the right to defend what I stand for” and this is what I know.

I looked at my cell phone waiting for the call for all my brothers to bear arms.

But a tear dropped from my eye and a part of me could die and I heard nothing but alarms.

My heart started to race and I started to pace at the site of someone attacking my land.

“I have the right to defend what I stand for”, and I will vow to make my stand.

My phone remained silent and my anger started to grow at the sight I could never dream.

Nothing could explain the anger and the pain on the television that I seen.

My land of the free and the home of the brave is a statement that I would die for.

I couldn’t imagine the day that I would start to pray about the enemy knocking at my front door.

Then the towers came down and my heart had came with it and I began to iron my uniform up.

I had to get a drink but my mind would always think and my hand would crack the cup.

My phone finally rang and with it, also came, the pain and the tears out my eyes.

I picked up the phone and wiped my face because even a solider sometimes cries.

“I have the right to defend what I stand for”, that’s what I thought when my Sergeant said we are on alert.

Give me my weapon and I will defend my birth right to the end, anything to take away the hurt!

I sat down in my chair and I started to stare at the screen replaying my pain.

“I have the right to defend what I stand for”, and an American solider will be my name

    Sure...please do

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
