    Burning Loyalty

    Burning Loyalty
    By
    Ashley Young

As I stare at the rising smoke,
    I shed a single tear.
    I am beginning to choke,
    The end is very near.

    So this is my fate,
    For helping the sick;
    Burning at the stake,
    Like a candle wick.

    The heat is unbearable,
    And everything’s blurry.
    These people are terrible,
    My sisters must hurry.

    I pray they make it,
    Far, far away.
More fires will soon be lit,
    For here they stay.

    Sisters stick together,
    Till the very end.
    We die altogether,
    And our souls will blend.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
