    Canada Geese - wintering

We are the mounded dreamers in the night,
Burrowed in scaly waves of icy shale,
Feathery igloos, huddled on the strand -
Facing the north wind, weathering the gale.

Gathering joy, against the shining time
Aurora's green and golden banners furled,
When at an ancient signal form the deep
Our chevrons grace the flyways of the world.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
