Danville Train

Danville Train
Mr. Howard rode the Danville train
He got on board in the lightening and rain
He drank his whiskey without any ice
He had a shot, he had one twice
He rolled his cards and cut his dice
Mr. Howard rode the Danville train
and Jesse James is in heaven now
Jesse James loved his woman
Jesse James loved his wife
Jesse James carved their names
in a rock with a butcher knife

Mr. Howard rode the Danville train
He got on board with nothing to gain
They say that he missed the border raid
He cut the cards, drew the ace of spades
Bought his ticket, his last farthing paid
Mr. Howard rode the Danville train
and Jesse James is in heaven now

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
