    Dear God

    Dear God,
    I ask this of you.
    Why do you let people
suffer if they love you so?
    I thought, you help people
    by ending their suffering.
    What do you people do
    to make themselves love you?
    I ask myself these questions
in hope for a faithful answer.
I lay there so quiet and still,
but I hear and feel nothing
    but emptiness and silence.
    One day will come when
    everyone is happy,
    but until that day comes
I turn to you for love,
    help, and support through
    this hard and lonely world.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
