End

I am the one who swallowed the sun,
Who turned the light to dark,
And made the world grow cold.
For this is the end of everything.

I am he who dug into the ground,
Until the magma flowed,
And burned away at the earth.
For this is the end of everyone.

And I saw it all,
All the deaths,
And all the pain,
And all the suffering.

Thats when I realized,
Deep, deep inside,
I don't care about anyone,
Or anything I just want it to all burn away.

Burn away, Burn away,
In a fire of cleansing,
In a time of genocide,
And war.

I am he who lit the fuse,
To ingnite the bomb,
and blow this stupid planet in two.
For the is the final countdown.

I am the one who killed this world,
Through my anger,
Through my madness and insanity.
For this is the end.

And I don't care at all,
And I don't feel anything at all,
And I know what pain is,
Its the greatest gift all.

This is the end,
My time of my great elation.
This is the end,
The time of my sudden immolation.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
