FOOTPRINTS, A TRIBUTE TO ALL AMERICAN SOLDIER'S WIVES
Winter time has come, dear heart
And snow now blankets all the land
But where you are, my dearest love
Just about all you ever see is sand.
I know you fight for freedom's cause
And that you're doing what is right
But oh how I miss your gentle smile
And your arms around me, warm and tight.
I now stand looking out at the footprints
That mark our front yard lawn
And slowly the tears begin to fall
As those lonely tracks I gaze upon.
Oh how I miss you, my darling
It very nearly breaks my heart
I long so for the day when you are here
And we are no longer so far apart.
Yes, as I gaze out of this window
A single prayer in my heart does grow
That by Christmas time there will be
Two sets of footprints in the snow.
