For D (1978-2007)
She loved the style of his clothes
She loved the way of his dress
She liked the sound of his voice
And loved the scent of his flesh
He wore Burberry cologne
His shoes were laced of Gucci
His suit and tie were just as fly
As his Fedora with the feathered crease
He spoke a good game
He lured her in with great charm
His words were so enticing
He made her cut off her right arm
She soon became blind
No longer able to see the truth
She distanced herself from mankind
And became negligent and aloof
He had secrets unknown
That only her eyes did not see
His true self revealed and shown
To everyone else, she did not believe
She denied the obvious
He replied with untruths
She was convinced it was everyone else
He induced, “They don’t love you like I do”
She began to lose weight
And blamed it all on stress
He was always out late
Of him she began to see less
Then one day she made a call
And I lent a listening ear
Her constant plea wasn’t at all
What I was trying to hear
Then the next day, the phone rang again
This conversation left me amazed
I received word that on her death bed
She was discovered with AIDS
The cause of her affliction
Was nowhere to be found
Yet HIS cause to her infection
Came out of his silence with great sound
He was his lover
For over 4 years now
The down-low brother
That put my friend in the ground
Feelings of remorse
Are all that encumber me
“I told you so” and of course
“You should’ve listened to me”
But you can’t hear me now
And you can’t see my face
But you can take a bow
For you are in a better place
