NY State of Mind
East meets West
Love meets fate
Waited a lifetime
Prayed on my knees
He heard...and answered
Or so I thought
But this can’t be
Then again
I should’ve seen this coming
That’s just the way “we” are
“We” always get the short end
Of the stick
But we always bounce back quick
Something about that
Good ole ....new york.... $hit!
But does that mean
We’re not allowed to fall in love?
Is love just not for me?
Am I a product of my environment
Of cold, bitterness and insecurities?
If so, I refuse!
No longer playing the fool
I can’t make you love me
Even if you claim you do
Friends say
Don’t give up so quick
But I’m on that NY $h!t
“We” don’t stand around
And “we” don’t stand for it
Can’t help but wonder though
Was I just another road
To your redemption?
I guess you failed to mention
Or maybe I chose not to hear
We don’t have palm trees
But we smoke trees
To ease
The pain and suffering of these
Broken promises
That’s life, some may say
F@ck it, tomorrow’s another day
But will the memories fade away?
What I find most intriguing
Is that although we’re one being
You still can’t seem to find…you
But while you're searching to explore?
What exactly are you searching for?
When your answer
Sits right in front of your face…
But that’s not my place
You’ve got to find your own space
And in turn
I’ll be in mine
With that rugged, gotta love it
NY state of mind…
Love meets fate
Waited a lifetime
Prayed on my knees
He heard...and answered
Or so I thought
But this can’t be
Then again
I should’ve seen this coming
That’s just the way “we” are
