    Haunted Walls

    Haunted Walls

The music that once fed my soul
Is now a story that goes untold
As haunting images fill these walls
Unforeseen dreams were made to fall
Visions of happiness linger blissfully there
    Encountering painful memories everywhere
    Sounds of laughter echoing through
Reminding me of a life I shared with you
To this day your presence still surrounds me
Holding me captive so I don't flee
When I close my eyes I see your face
For the comfort of your arms vanished without a trace
I can still taste your kiss upon my lips
Even though my heart tears and rips
Only with you is where I belong
But I know I will never make it home
From now on each morning when I wake
I will start a new day with a smile I fake
As weeks turn into months and months turn into years
I'll never escape these haunted walls I fear

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
