Heart of Stone
Heart of Stone
the silent aching inside my heart
means more to me than you can see
the love, the lonliness, is it yours or mine
that i try so desperately to protect you
if we could shake our world
and watch the snowflakes
fall one at a time
and shake again if we don't like their landing
how easy life would be to rearrange
unfortunate that it's not that way
how sad it is to know
that once the pieces fall beneath the place we choose to stand
they are there forever frozen
if only you knew what i know now
if only i could go back there
the heart that opens in the wrong direction
can turn to stone in a breath
i wish for you the peace i've yearned for
this wish is all i have
for you to have what God would bring you
if only you could see
i know your eyes are sometimes blind and ears are often deaf
feet will sometimes lead you to places filled with fear
if only you could walk out of the silence
and come into the light
your eyes they might see what i have yearned for
your ears they might hear my pain
you just might feel the
the gentle wisdom
that leads you from the stone.
the silent aching inside my heart
means more to me than you can see
the love, the lonliness, is it yours or mine
that i try so desperately to protect you
if we could shake our world
and watch the snowflakes
fall one at a time
and shake again if we don't like their landing
how easy life would be to rearrange
unfortunate that it's not that way
how sad it is to know
that once the pieces fall beneath the place we choose to stand
they are there forever frozen
if only you knew what i know now
if only i could go back there
the heart that opens in the wrong direction
can turn to stone in a breath
i wish for you the peace i've yearned for
this wish is all i have
for you to have what God would bring you
if only you could see
i know your eyes are sometimes blind and ears are often deaf
feet will sometimes lead you to places filled with fear
if only you could walk out of the silence
and come into the light
your eyes they might see what i have yearned for
your ears they might hear my pain
you just might feel the
the gentle wisdom
that leads you from the stone.
