I Can't Take It

Poem Commentary

This is just about me being insecure because my husband and I argue a lot. I'm afraid that I'm going to push him away. So, I've gotten myself flustered enough to start imaging these things.

I Can't Take It

I can't take imagining you doing those things; it hurts so much.
To imagine your lips on another, them caressing you with their touch.
I delve into complete depression, I bury my sorrow in a drink.
And, that my love is when I start to think.
I draw up these two naked bodies touching. Kissing. Everything.
Doing everything that makes the body sing.
Please don't go too far from me.
I don't want to see.
Be mine and only mine, please.

This is really heartfelt. I really love this and the structure of the poem. -Rachel

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
