I Delight In You
I delight in your smile,
Then when you grab my hand trusting in me that I would let no harm come to you
And I guide you through life explaining things to you when you ask why
Believing me, gullible ears taking in everything I say and recording it just to play it over
A smaller version of me, trying to be me as you dance around in my shoes
“Look mommy don’t I look cute” you say and I laugh hoping you don’t fall
But if you do I will be there to pick you up and comfort you
My darling child my heart delights in you
From the time you wake up till the hour you go to sleep
How calm and peaceful you look, so beautiful and enchanting
I watch you, and I imagine you changing the world
In my time of sadness your face brings me out of the darkness that over crowds me
And I know that I can go on in life because you strengthen me.
I delight in you my little princess
When you hug me and tell me that you love me, I know it’s genuine
It will never fade, it will never change
My soul delights in you my precious child.
You are my reason for living
