    I FINALLY STOPPED LOVING YOU

    It was hot that night
    and I couldn't sleep
    I prayed to the Lord
    for my soul to keep
    Tossing and turning
    the memories in my mind
    we're churning
Memories of how it used to be
    when we we're together
and you said that you loved me
    Then I felt it
    that same old pain
I cried out "Don't leave me baby"
and I called out your name
    Like so many times
    I had done so before
after you shut me out of your life
    like slamming a door
    Then I felt another pain
but this was not like the rest
This pain came from deep inside me
    way down in my chest
    I felt it moving
    like bees in a swarm
    up through my chest
    then down my left arm
    The hot humid air
    now seemed so thick
    I tried to sit up
but it just made me sick
I knew I was about to die
    in that place
    and I never again
    would see your beautiful face
    I lay there in pain
    with no one to care
and the sweet scent of RED
    filled up the air
    Then in an instant
    the sweet scent was gone
and I felt my life sip away
    sad and alone
    I always knew it would
    end that way
and baby I finally stopped loving you
    that day

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
