    I Long

I long to feel your touch

    To feel your embrace

    Know every inch of you

    Against my very skin

Till every ounce of my being

    Is enveloped within you

    To know what passion is

    Know how it truly feels

I long to be able to trust again

    That love won't use me

    Leave me bleeding and bruised

To know it will call me again

Not make me feel wicked in sin

You can't even begin to understand

The pain and secrets deep within

The girl you see is only skin deep

    Inside,my soul,steadily weep's

How I long to let you in

And take the key and lock you here

Love has hurt me so bad

    Has cut me so deep

    Show me how to begin

    How to let you in

I need you to show me

    I can trust again

Before I give up my love

    I need you to prove

    I won't be thrown away

When the love has been sweetly given up

I long to fall in love again.

I can relate to this on so many levels, it's a bit frightening. To close yourself off completely seems the only way to survive once your trust and sense of self have been annihilated, but I can't help but wonder (if only from my own point of view), what we're missing, if anything? This poem truly hits hard, and that is the essence of an outstanding writer. Another 10, and I'm quickly becoming a fan!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
