I Saved Her (The Her Inside of Me)

    I saved her
    Without realizing
Everyday just trying to make it
    With my head still high
Even with my emotions hung low
Tried my best not to let it show
But sometimes I had to let go…
    Tears clogged my heart
    Tearing me apart
    Until I thought...I would die
    Wanted to…
    Needed to…
    Had a reason…
    NOT TO
    My Child
    She needed me
I needed her to need me
I needed me to need her
    Love her
    Live for her
    Show her
    Never be afraid…
    Nights of fear overwhelmed me
    Tore through me
    Had this cloud so dark
    Threatening to crush me
    My spirit needed healing
    Here she was a girl
    This girl
    This girl
    My love
    I could love
    I wouldn’t fail
    Couldn’t fail
    Was so afraid to fail
Looked in her eyes so afraid
    Trying to be so strong
    Always felt wrong
    Like I was a failure
All her life felt like a failure
    Wouldn’t show it
Wanted her to believe she could be…
Never realizing how much like me
How much she was a symbol of me
    My freedom
    Her hymen
Locked me in a chastity belt of delight
    Not stolen love
Just needed her to feel love
    To know romance
    Not be afraid to love…him…herself
    Myself…caught…wants…to know
    It’s here
    It’s real
    Didn’t pay attention
    In my face
    Everyday
    The way…
    She loves…
    That fantasy
    The knight
    The horse
    The path
    Through a dense forest
    Came true
    In my dreams
    I saw her riding off
    In white
    Not red
    Tainted tears of despair
    Like her mom
    Held on
    For so long
    Trying, trying, trying
    Defying the odds
    See the sun setting
    Never forgetting
    Forgiving
So the next could be mine
    I saved me in her
    I saved her in me
    All this time never realizing
The hero was always inside of me
    My strength, faith and love
    Carried us away
    Across the rainbow of pain
    To peace and finally understanding
    Learning finally
I saved her (the her that is me)
