I See You In My Dreams

I think how it will be in the future we so long for,
You and me in a big ranch house overlooking a valley floor.
Waking up with you each morning with a smile on your face,
Creates the warmest feeling; with your lips I taste.
With your long, beautiful hair glowing in the morning sun,
With a touch of magic in those blue eyes; the day had just begun.
Sitting across from you for breakfast at our table made of wood,
The love and caring that flow between us; never misunderstood.
Keeping close to you, not only in person, but in spirit also,
It’s plain and clear to all, far and near, we love each other so.
I kiss you good-by to leave to work and then I’m on my way,
Although I leave in person, my love for you will stay.
When I come home, I see you on the front porch swing,
As I see you, my day gets brighter; as a sparrow when it sings.
You come up to put your arms around me, kissing me on the cheek,
As you do so, I’m overwhelmed with a feeling of relief.
Sitting in our swing, we look down our valley below,
The world passing by us as we hold each other close.
We watch the sun set; blue sky changing colors at it dims,
Sitting until the first star shows; a soft breeze blowing through tree limbs.
Side by side, hand in hand, we move inside the house,
We eat a bit of supper; you slip on an evening gown.
As we fall asleep in each other’s arms, we dream about tomorrow,
What must be done throughout the day and many days to follow.
Day to day events will change, but no matter how rough, for us, life makes,
I know I’ll always find you lying beside me, in the morning, when I wake.
To tell you the truth, I couldn’t care less how rich or poor I am,
As far as I’m concerned, as long as I have you, I’m more wealthy than any man.
Right now, by day, I look at pictures and only think how it will be,
But, by night, I see you in my dreams; in all your radiant beauty.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
