    I, Too, Understand the Darkness

I know how you feel when your back is against the wall,
And you feel that you can’t turn to anyone but the Darkness.
I know Darkness is warm and comforting,
It veils your whole body from the world and keeps you safe.
It gives you reason not to live,
Not to breathe, not to see.
Darkness is your God you pray to.
Asking him to take you now,
But he laughs in your face
And makes you suffer for a little while longer.
    But your Darkness can’t love.
It can’t love or breathe or see.
So it takes love, breathe, and sight from you so you can’t either.
When you’re in the dark you have time to think.
See the world’s evil while overlooking the good.
I’m the good that you’re overlooking.
I understand you’re lost and in pain.
You’re waiting to gain something the world hasn’t given you:
Understanding and something to live for.
You are my friend and if you won’t breathe for yourself,
    Then I’ll breathe for you.
I want to help you through your Darkness.
I am your light, and I am waiting to help you shine.

    Your friend,

    Montavious Walker

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
