If I can, so can you

If I can, so can you

Life is ruff and times are hard. There’s always going to be a struggle.
What’s the point of life being long, if it’s just one long tunnel?
No light at the end, you can’t see how far, time is dancing with shadows.
It’s caving in, no matter how dark; you still feel the chills of battle.
Fight or flight, run and hide, what’s the point, why should I try?
Same old questions invading me mind, every time my heart is declined.
I should end it now, no one will care. You say you love me, but you’re never there.
The razor is sharp, my wrist is thin, my vein is thick, and I can see my end.
Now there’s a problem, I don’t understand. I can’t make the razor break through the skin.
Would it really matter if it ends for me, will they see, that now I’m free?
If they don’t care then why should I?
They don’t know how much I try, to change my life to match their lies.
And now I see, I came to realize, I should be the biggest person in my eyes.
And now I feel pleased inside. A simple smile, a soft laugh, a small sigh.
The razor dropped like the sound of a dime. I stood up proud and opened my mind.
My mouth form the words, I can survive.
Hard times come and there’s nothing you can do. But they only last as long as you let them to.
If it doesn’t break you, it can only make you stronger.
Just don’t let it bend you backwards, because the lesson will only take longer.

nicely done

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
