LAST LOOK

Take a last look,

Before you leave.

Maybe this is a goodbye,

Goodbye forever.

I know we have spent so much time together

Maybe quality time,

But obviously not enough.

There is always more to tell each

That I would wish you I could know

Anyway, today seems to be,

That day we never imagine will be;

A goodbye day.

Take a last look

Before you leave

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
