Poem Commentary

story of a little girls struggles with an abusive mother

Little Child, So Confused...

She hides under her bed
as she hears her call her name
Saying that she will punish her
and that she is to blame ~
"You know you mustn't do it
don't get mommy mad
You'll be sorry when I get you!"
why must she be so bad?
Too afraid to even move
as tears sting her eyes
Knowing that if she catches her
she mustn't tell her lies ~
She has to say it was her fault
it's what she wants to hear
She'll teach her not to answer back,
inflicting her with fear.
She hears her footsteps on the stairs
and anger in her voice
Bracing herself for what's to come
she dare not even breathe
Fearing her horrible punishments
and the scars that they leave.

Shivering with fear she sees her
walk into her room
And crouch to where she sees her
as she feels a sense of doom ~
She takes ahold of her arms
and drags her along the floor
Chastising her with angry kicks
till she can take no more.

She smashes things and yells at her
"Do you think we're ****ing rich?
Why must you always be so bad,
you ungrateful little bitch?"
"Please, Mommy, I didn't mean to!
I'll clean it up you'll see"
Thinking as tears blinded her,
maybe then you will love me.
But mommy has other plans
to teach her once again
That she must not disobey
the palm of her hand ~
She takes her to the cupboard
that sits beneath the stairs
As she screams in fear that she'll behave
but she ignores her pleas.

She throws her into the darkness
tells her not to make a sound
Sneering at her with such distaste,
as she huddles on the ground ~
She then double locks the latches
and quietly walks away
While she leaves her locked in silence
for another two more days.
With no food or water
she becomes very weak
She doesn't have the energy
to breathe or to speak ~
As she lays in the darkness
she can't do it anymore
And as she begins to close her eyes
mommy opens up the door.

She picks her up gently
a loving smile on her face
There's no sign of her anger
with that look of distaste ~
She's not the woman who punished her
she is her loving mom
Who loves her when she is good
and hates her when she's bad.
This is the mommy she remembers
not the monster she becomes
When she wants to take out her anger;
see the damage that she's done ~
The little girl that she adored
once the essence of her pride
Now is but a frightened child
who now only wants to hide.
As she reads her a story
and tucks her into bed
She smiles at her with apologies
of the horrible things she said ~
"You know why I had to do it
you shouldn't get me mad,"
Nodding she knows it was her fault,
as she says "goodnight, mom."
That night while she lay sleeping
the dreams in her head
Told her to be careful
of all she did and said ~
For no matter how hard she tries
to rise above her pain
Mommy will always punish her
for making her mad again.

Hi, theroamingcrow, This is a very good write!!! There are so many children, going through this kind of abuse, I Call them: " The Children, With The Silent Cries", because, nobody can hear them. It's so sad, the People, whom are Mistreating these children, are In Pain themselves, yet, instead of facing that pain, and seeking Enlightenment for Healing, in a Positive Manner, are taking it out on Defenseless, and Helpless Children. NO CHILD, SHOULD EVER, DESERVE THE RIGHT TO BE ABUSED....BUT CORRECTED, TAUGHT & DISCIPLINED IN A VERY POSITIVE AND CONSTRUCTIVE MANNER, LOVING TO GOD!! AND WHEN PATIENCE ARE TESTED, SEEK GOD IN HIS HEALING AND GUIDANCE, TO BE THE BEST PERSON AND PARENT TO BE HUMANLY POSSIBLE....I SAY THIS BECAUSE, IT IS SO CRITICAL, TO BE MINDFUL, OF THE SEEDS THAT ARE PLANTED INTO THE CHILDREN, THAT SUCH THINGS OF NEGATIVITY ARE NOT PASSED ON.. SO THAT, THE SEAL OF ABUSE, AND HURTFUL INTENTIONS ARE BROKEN, THAT GENERATIONS TO COME, WILL BEGIN A NEW MANNER OF LOVE, RESPECT, FULFILLMENT ,WITH LOVING DISCIPLINE& PARENTING FOR THEIR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN TO COME..........LET US CONTINUE TO PRAY, BECAUSE, AS WE SPEAK, RIGHT NOW A CHILD IS PERHAPS, BEING ABUSED, THAT WILL NOT MAKE IT TODAY, BUT, WE CAN KNOW, IN COMFORT, THAT GOD IS TAKING OVER AND THEY WILL SUFFER NO MORE.. RESPECTFULLY, I BELIEVE, THAT GOD HANDLES, US ALL IN HIS TIME, IN HIS WAY, SO MAY WE ALL BE ENCOURAGED TO BE BETTER TODAY, AND EVERY DAY TO OURSELVES AND OTHERS.. HOW BLESSED WE ARE, IN KNOWING THAT, GOD IS MERCIFUL AND FORGIVING IF IN OUR HEARTS, WE ARE SINCERE IN ASKING OF HIS FORGIVENESS... THANK YOU, FOR SHARING! MAY THIS POEM HELP SOMEONE THAT, PERHAPS, IS OR HAS GONE THROUGH THIS SAME EXPERIENCE...MAY YOU CONTINUE TO BE BLESSED AND A BLESSING!! PEACE & FRIENDSHIP FLOWER GIRL

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.
