Little Girl Lost - Part 1

The moment I first saw her
    She took my breath away
A little girl lost it seemed
a bond had formed that day
I knew my life from that point on
    Would never be the same
She brought meaning to my life
Though I never knew her name

Just about the age of five
    Alone among her peers
The air was filled with laughter
While she fought back her tears
The other children wouldn't have seen
Had she let her teardrops fall
It was clear to me that no one
    Really noticed her at all

    I watched her watching nothing
She didn't see the kids at play
Her eyes saw something others couldn't
    Somewhere else far away
    Her hair was slightly messy
Her clothes not new but clean
It looked as though she chose her dress
To match her eyes of green

I felt my heart begin to sink
My spine then felt a shiver
    I wasn't sure I'd want to know
What caused her lip to quiver
She didn't know I sat there
Learning more from her each day
    She never heard my questions
But her face had much to say

I knew my arms couldn't hold her
And I feared no others would
She faced each day not knowing
That a hug was something good
I tried to see inside her soul
I prayed her pain would end
    I wanted her to realize
    She's always had a friend

For many years I sat and loved
    This angel from afar
    Simply wishing she would shine
    As bright as any star
If she noticed me she tried
    Not to let it show
But if I fell too far behind
    Her steps began to slow

She'd let me get a little closer
    Then pick up her pace
She seemed to like this game we played
    Until we reached her place
    The tiny hint of happiness
    Would fade to something dark
But, I knew tomorrow she would be
Right back there in that park

Like every day before she'd stand
    And blankly stare ahead
    Watching what I'll never know
    I'm left to hope instead
That the images she watched each day
Would bring her peace of mind
And let that little girl lost see
    The world she'd someday find.

that is probably the most beautiful and touching poem i have read on here . . . . beautiful!!! thanks for sharing

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
