My Worst Enemy
I lace up my boots
Put on my red gloves
My mouthpiece in place
I enter the ring with gusto
Light on my feet
I prance
Swing and a miss
We dance and dance and dance
Then your Direct hit
Now I am K.O.
Off in the distance
I hear pounding like a knock on the back door
Echoing one two three four
Vacillating on my feet
I decide to steady my position
Moving forward in self delusion
I head out to center floor
Letting my own stupidity soar
I ready myself to endure more
Promises to myself I make
Vows I say I will not break
Oh, but then that tempter comes
In the form of a beautifully adorned snake
I bite into the delicious fruit
Admiring the whole damn tree
Only to discover in that moment
The real enemy
She lies right here
Within Me
Grown now
Many years behind me
Yet I still stumble like a child
All wobbly in her Knee
At times I do achieve
Progress and Amplification
Only then to retreat
Requiring of myself
Further Intensification
I have no one to Blame
This is plain to see
For I stunt my own growth
Letting neediness weaken me
Promises to myself I make
Vows I say I will not break
But then - that tempter comes
In the form of a beautifully adorned snake
Bite into the delicious fruit
Fuck, I indulge the whole damn tree
Only to discover in that moment
The real enemy
She lies right here
Within Me
Not once, twice but thrice
I venture down
The same old street
Landing in the same old pot hole
Although mountaineering out sooner than the last
I wonder when I will just learn to avoid
Avoid that street called
SELF DEFEAT
Oh those promises to myself I make
And those vows I say I will not break
But here comes that tempter again
Oh my goodness
What a beautifully adorned
Snake
Umm Umm Umm
Would I ever like to taste that fruit
Wake up girl it’s time to learn from your own mistake
Take the very first step
Toward setting YOUR SELF free
Save YOUR SELF from emotional agony
I turned away
Headed down a new street
And in that very moment of choosing
I achieved victory
Victory
Over my worst enemy
Me
