    Shadows in the Fog

The larks grew tired and weary,
Of their cheery songs the night.
The air grew damp and chilly,
The wind used all its might.

I felt drawn from my warm chamber,
By a force I did not know.
The wind cut through me like a blade,
The ground was cold with snow.

And as I strolled along the path,
    Strange voices I did hear.
Like songs of lost and dying souls,
    My heart engorged with fear.

My eyes were playing tricks on me,
In the pale and fading light.
    As if I were surrounded,
    By demon hordes that night.

    The spectral light, a serenade,
    For mist atop the bog.
I stopped and stared without control,
    At shadows in the fog.

Then to my knees I did drop,
Her approach had stole my breath.
My skin grew cold and clammy,
I felt as if near death.

    Her eyes glistened emerald green,
Her lips shone in the night.
Her smile made my heart grow weak,
    She took away my fight.

And when she spoke my soul fell spry,
Her voice whispered like the wind.
She whispered why she came to me,
    "Against you they have sinned."

And as her story did unwind,
    The tears began to fly.
    My body riddled with disease,
    No rhyme or reason why.

She smiled and she touched my face,
    She wiped away my tears.
And as she spoke she calmed me,
"Your soul will last for years."

She leaned to me and with a kiss,
She filled my soul with heat.
Our embrace brought forth an angry storm,
    Her touch seemed ever sweet.

The stinging pain I felt inside,
    Burned like a blazing fire.
I felt my body changing fast,
    I feared what would transpire.

It seemed years before I woke,
    Before I rose that night.
I gazed once more maybe twice,
    And marveled at the sight.

And now my pain is ever gone,
And the night now sings a tune.
Of laughing spirits full of glee,
    Who dance before the moon.

The cold, the fear, the earthly woe,
    Will trouble me no more.
For now with her by my side,
    Like eagles will we soar.

I love the darkness and the moon,
    The mist atop the bog.
And now we dance as kindred souls,
    Two shadows in the fog.

What a pleasure to read! The imagery beautiful, the culmination a thrill...

I absolutely love this piece. Well written. "I love the darkness and the moon" "and now we dance as kindred souls, two shadows in the fog" love those lines. I could read this poem over and over and never grow tired of it. Excellent. 10 from me

The spectral light, a serenade, For mist atop the bog. I stopped and stared without control, At shadows in the fog. nice..I like the feel of this demon lover poem...good work

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
