SISTER

SISTER

I stood by your car this morning,

And smiled and said good-bye.

You turned the corner and drove away,

And I began to cry.

I cried for you, I cried for me.

I cried for the sunny day.

I cried for all those times gone by,

When life was all about play.

But now we’re adults,

And have been through a lot,

I don’t see you every day,

But don’t you know I think about

all the things I want to say.

I always thought you were so self assured,

Knew what you wanted from life.

So strong, so giving, generous in all,

Your heart, your money, and time.

I’m not sure what you thought of me,

Especially with the path I took.

I know you love me, and always will,

Beyond that, I’m afraid to look.

Our sister died, her body found

In the bottom of a quarry ditch,

We both I know, still grieve to this day,

Forever wondering, what we could have done.

So our lives went on, together and apart,

Molding who we are today.

I have always said if you needed me,

That I would be there for you.

But when you call or come to visit,

It seems like I want you to go.

I feel like such a hypocrite,

Because I love you very much,

And it really isn’t so!!

I want to be with you to talk,

To get our feelings out,

To bond again, and help each other,

Through all these pangs of angst.

It seems like there is never enough time,

To open like we want to do,

I can only hope we can try again,

Because I really DO love you!

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
