SOMEONE TELL ME WHY

I can’t shake this feeling of sadness,

Though I really don’t know you that well.

You’ve worked in the office below mine

For more than fifteen years.

I watched you go into work,

Always crisp, and clean, and neat.

We’d say hello, but that would be all.

And we’d go our separate ways.

My boss and you, doctors both,

A long, hard road to achieve.

A private practice , another long road,

But you reached your goal at last.

Years go by and life keeps on,

Medicine today is not just patients,

It’s committees, formularies, and paper.

But you struggle through, for you love

What it is you do.

But now last week it came to an end

You are the patient now.

A very aggressive malignant brain tumor.

With less that a year to live.

Oh, God, it makes me sick, I

Want to scream and cry for you:

IT ISN’T FAIR! IT ISN’T FAIR!

I have so much more to do!

All your patients are mourning you,

You will never practice again.

And I am sure you cry for them,

As well as for yourself.

I didn’t get to know you,

But wish I had, and that

There were something I could do.

To show you how much you

Will be missed, by all who

Knew and loved you.
