So Very Thin

So Very Thin

I feel the darkness in my soul pulling at my body.
It tells me to do harm to those who wronged me.
But, my light tells me what will it acomplish?
A soul full of light and warth to bring me peace.
A constant struggle to keep the two forces at bay.
A gray line seperate them both but,
It is so thin that anything can drastically change the balance.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
