Suddenly.
Silly little sleepyheadRubbed his eyes, climbed out of bed
School, it starts in half an hour
Time to brush his teeth and shower.
First the pants and then the shirt
Still with stains, and bits of dirt.
Then the socks, and last the shoes
The laces seem so hard to use.
Then he's headed out the door
The way he's gone so much before
Across the yard, and on the street
Checking what he has to eat
He never sees the car arrive
The doctor said he won't survive
Now I'm left at home alone
Tell me, why is my child gone?
The fingerprints I used to clean
His little truck and submarine
I leave them out, I cannot bear
The thought of putting them somewhere
Why did life become so cruel
That morning when he went to school
All I seem to do is weep
And often cry myself to sleep
I miss my little child so much
His loving voice, his gentle touch
If only I had treasured more
The little time we had before.
