The Devil's Wager

The Devil's Wager

so long

so much time left out to spoil

fist fights in my mirror

boiled over into

apathy

and rejection

hatred loomed

dissatisfaction loomed

suicide loomed

while acceptance

kept its distance

as a long shot at best

all the while

sunup to sundown

bartering and wagers

in smoky back rooms

  my mother

  my kids

  my husband

knees soiled

as they toil over the big win...

my soul

all the while

the Timekeeper

had already written

this poem with my pen

pink love letters

laced with perfume

were already on my pillow

the courting had begun

after while

I started to notice

that my skin was velvet

my mind of diamonds

my heart of rubies

my declaration pierced the devil's ears

all hostages were to be

released

my spirit

tasted freedom's nectar

      then licked my lips

with a sense of satisfaction that was long

overdue

This is great! Negotiating with your darker half for peace of mind? Deciding on the size and location of a proposed demilitarized zone? Do the people not directly involved in the negotiations have a hint of a clue as to what's going on? This is classic subversion,O.C. - BIG PROPS from a fellow undercover anarchist, Ha ha!
