The Meaning of Christmas
Christmas comes just once a year
It was set aside to honor our Lord.
A day meant for praise has lost its meaning
To toys and gifts and more
We rush to the stores to grab what we can
Spending cash that we really don’t own
When all that we need is to spend that time
With our loved ones before they are gone.
What happened to the all day baking with Grandma
And visiting on Christmas Eve?
When the house smelled of cakes and cookies and pies
And watching snow fall upon the leaves
Music and smells fill the air in each room
While mistletoe hangs overhead
Christmas trees dotted with lights all around
Don bows tied neatly in red
Remember at night when you drift off to sleep
To be thankful our Jesus did come
Because the greatest gift was already given
When he paid for all sin, not just some
It was set aside to honor our Lord.
A day meant for praise has lost its meaning
To toys and gifts and more
We rush to the stores to grab what we can
Spending cash that we really don’t own
When all that we need is to spend that time
With our loved ones before they are gone.
What happened to the all day baking with Grandma
And visiting on Christmas Eve?
When the house smelled of cakes and cookies and pies
And watching snow fall upon the leaves
Music and smells fill the air in each room
While mistletoe hangs overhead
Christmas trees dotted with lights all around
Don bows tied neatly in red
Remember at night when you drift off to sleep
To be thankful our Jesus did come
Because the greatest gift was already given
When he paid for all sin, not just some
